COMPUTER HAPPENINGS - APRIL

I hope everybody had a safe and restful Easter. Time is passing by so quickly and we still need to finish up a few more projects together before summer break.

Grades 3 have finished their Valentine poems and have presented them to the class. We have started on PowerPoint and are doing a tutorial on the life cycle of a frog. We have learned how to add slides, change fonts and font size and how to insert pictures. We will be learning how to change the background colors of the slide.

Grades 4 have finished their tutorial on PowerPoint and are working on a project All about Me and will present to the class next week.

Grades 5 have finished their tutorial on PowerPoint and have been creating a video game using their skills. They will be starting on Excel in the next few weeks.

Grade 6 is on the last tutorial of Sketchup. They will be starting their final project on Sketchup, a Toy Store of their own creation.

Grade 7 is starting on Chapter 5 of Alice learning about interactions of events and event handling which means creating a video game in Alice.

Grade 8 is starting on Expressions 4 which will teach them how to create WebPages. For their final, they will be creating their own WebPage.

Mrs. Bonk – Computer Teacher

Course Objectives:
Students will learn the following:
Tux Paint, Scratch (computer programming for younger students), KidPix 4, Alice 2.2, Sketchup 8.0, Web Expressions 4, Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher), Internet Safety, Keyboarding, Educational Software and Internet programs relating to Math and English, Language Arts, and Keyboarding.

Grading:
Your projects are graded on a rubric which consists of the following: follow directions, completeness, correct skills used, and visual impact.
If you are absent or have trouble meeting a project’s due date, then you need to come and see me to make arrangements to work on the project before or after school or during lunch.
Participation/Prepared/Work Habits (PPW)
You will receive a grade based on these:
1. You need to be prepared with all materials and supplies each class.
2. You need to follow classroom rules while working your very best.
3. You need to be part of class discussions and lectures.

Homework:
Homework will be assigned in computer class. All homework will be due the following week. Homework needs to be done neatly with a complete heading. Students in grades 6-8 will have a required monthly essay on technology. This essay will need to be a one typed page. Attach the article to the back of the typed page. A bonus of 5 points (exception: monthly essay which is required to be typed) will be given for typed assignments.

Tests and Quizzes:
One week notice will always be given for a test or quiz. In addition, a review sheet will be given for you to study. If you are absent the day a test or quiz is announced, I will give a review sheet to a classmate. If you are absent on a test or quiz day, you will need to make up the test when you return.
All tests and quizzes need to be signed by your parent or guardian and returned the next class. If you fail to return the test or quiz, a five point deduction will be taken.

Late Work:
A deduction of ten (10) points a school day will be taken against the grade for late assignments. You will receive a homework slip. After one week past the deadline, the grade will be recorded as a ZERO.
